Circular Quay to Matraville via Botany

A ride on the Matraville via Botany Line.

Well here are, in the front compartment of an "P" class tram, at the corner of Young and Alfred Sts., Circular Quay, waiting for departure time, our destination is Maroubra Beach. Departure time arrives, the driver applies power and we swing around the corner into Alfred St for a short time, passing in front of the Goldsborough Mort Wharehouse before agian swinging right into Phillip St., where we climb the hill and after reaching Bridge St, we see the up tracks where they enter Bridge St before turning into Young St.We travel down the phillip St to it intersection with Hunter St., (since built over by the State Office Block) where we turn right, travelling to Elizabeth St., where we swing left (at this point if you were to look left towards the Wentworth Hotel, you would notice the curve of the road taking shape, it was planned for trams to traverse this section of Elizabeth St.,, but the services were discontinued before this could happen), travelling down Elizabeth St, we cross Martin Place, King St,arriving at Market St., the end of the 1st section. Leaving this stop we continue along Elizabeth St.,passing Central railway until we reach Randle St., where we turn swing right and travel along until we reach Chalmers St (this detour being necessary due to the hole that will become the Eastern Suburbs railway staion at Central), Chalmers St is followed alongside Prince Alfred Park, passing through a facing point connecting these tracks to the tracks in Cleveland St, and continuing alongside the edge of a group of beautiful old houses that will be demolished for the Sydney Mail Exchange. Chalmers St is followed until it intersection with Redfern St., where we turn right and proceed until the intersection of Regents St. Here we turn left and continue along until Regents St., becomes Botany Rd., at the intersection of Henderson Rd., where there is a facing point leading to the tracks to St.Peters Station. This (Botany Rd) is then followed for its entire length passing through Waterloo, Zetland, Rosebery, Beaconsfield, Mascot and Banksmeadow before terminating in Chelmsford Ave.(Although the destination sign was Matraville, the line has been curtailed to its present terminus). After terminating at Chelmsford Ave, we would then retrace our steps to Circular Quay.
